Working at Corrib Oil
Staff Stories
At Corrib Oil, we love to see our employees grow and progress in their careers. We love to promote from within, and we’re always identifying new opportunities for our team members to expand their horizons.
Gavin Butler
Store Manager, Castlerea
Gavin Butler joined Corrib Oil as a part-time retail assistant in 2018, working on the evening shift in our Castlerea store. After a year, he became a supervisor, and his manager encouraged him to apply for the Apprenticeship in Retail Supervision through the company. Gavin was promoted to Assistant Manager in his third year with the company. After completing his apprenticeship, he went on to complete a degree also focused on Retail. Gavin took on the role of Store Manager in Athlone when the site first opened and today, he manages our Castlerea retail store when he began his career back in 2018.
Avril Garvey
Group Finance System Analyst
Avril Garvey started in the Corrib Oil shop in Tuam on the day it opened in 2001 as a Retail Assistant. Today, she plays a key role in the company’s finances and systems as Group Finance System Analyst. As she finished college, she moved out of the retail role and into Accounts Payable and did her CIMA exams. From there, she went into what was a newly created role of trainee management accountant. From there, she was promoted into roles Retail Management Accountant, Group Account and ultimately Group Finance System Analyst. Avril says her experience on the tills from her early days at Corrib Oil helps her to understand the company’s finances and systems from the ground up.
Emma Guinan
Artic Driver
Emma Guinan is Corrib Oil’s first female oil truck driver – but she won’t be the last. She joined the company more than three years ago as a rigid driver, delivering fuel in Carlow and Kilkenny. Since then, she has become an artic driver, collecting deliveries at Dublin port and distributing them to our depots.
Gerry Mullins
Driver Trainer
Gerry Mullins has been working for Corrib Oil for more than 25 years. He started as a rigid driver and then drove an artic in Galway. From there, he became a sales representative for oil distribution and in 2019 he became a driver trainer. Today, his role is to ensure all drivers comply with company policy and best practice when they are on the road and operating the trucks.
Lisa Mullarkey
Executive Assistant to our CEO
Lisa Mullarkey has been part of the Corrib Oil team since 2013. She started her career with us in our Ballyhaunis store, where she worked in the deli. In 2020 she took on the role of receptionist in our Group HQ in Galway. Lisa is quick to lend a hand anywhere it’s needed. During the pandemic when we had staff shortages while people were self-isolating, Lisa’s experience in Ballyhaunis meant she was often asked to step in at one of our stores, or oil depots helping us keep the doors open. Today she is the Executive Assistant to our CEO Eugene P. Dalton.
