National Ploughing Championships

This year, Corrib Oil is thrilled to be back in Ratheniska, Co. Laois for the National Ploughing Championships 2022. After a behind-closed-doors event in 2021, the championships are back in full swing this year and Corrib Oil will be there all week. Call into our stand for a cup of tea and a chat about your agricultural and commercial oil needs over the coming year. We’ll be at stand 380, Block 2, Row 23. We’ll have exciting giveaways and prizes on hand, and members of our team will be available to advise you on how to get the best possible value for money for oil this winter.

Did you know?

The National Ploughing Championships began as a contest between two friends all the way back in 1931.  Denis Allen from Gorey, County Wexford and JJ Bergin from Athy, County Kildare were each convinced that their own county had the better ploughmen. The first contest was held in Athy to settle the bet, nine counties competed, and Wexford were the winners on the day. JJ Bergin went on to lead the National Ploughing Association for many years. Today, the Ploughing Championships is one of the largest outdoor events in Europe.

What will happen at the National Ploughing Championships 2022?

This year, the World and National Ploughing Championships take place in Ratheniska. There will be ploughing contests of course, and demonstrations on agricultural machinery and products. The event has grown far beyond that, it is the highlight of the annual calendar for rural Ireland. There will be celebrity appearances; live entertainment; fashion shows; a craft village; cooking demonstrations; sheep dog trials; pony games; fairground amusements, and a whole host of other activities.
